Review: Tall Ships 'Home'

Review: Tall Ships 'Home'

Brighton based Tall Ships return with Home, a taster for their second album Impressions scheduled for release March 31st.

Home is the ultimate road trip song: capturing the ever present tension of balancing wanderlust with the desire for a place to belong. The track builds on humble beginnings over six minutes into a crescendo of post rock layers and inspiring improvisations before fading away with a reassuring consistency that everything is just as it should be. The track is held together with simple melodies and measured drums but ultimately is greater than the sum of its parts. Vocals sore and spike but never disrupt the track or divert attention away from the wholesome, cyclical nature of Home. Instead they emotively capture a sense of bittersweet nostalgia many listeners will be familiar with.

A strong offering and coming of age record which hopefully heralds the shape of things to come with album #2. Pop it on your playlist and go on an adventure.
