Nuts for Nut Butter

Nuts for Nut Butter

There's a lot I could say about nut butter. In fact I could probably write an whole post about my eternal love for humble nut butter and banana sandwiches but I'll save that for later.

Nut butter is currently experiencing a bit of a renaissance. Once a lonely jar in the back of the top corner cupboard resigned to share the sandwich limelight with jam, nut butter is now a firm staple on many health bloggers' shopping lists. It's not just peanuts either. Almonds, brazils and cashews can all be ground up into gooey goodness which is as at home in porridge and smoothies as it is thickening stews and curry sauces.

Teamed with fruit, nut butters provide the perfect pre-workout snack, packing a protein punch as well as pure deliciousness. However the best way to eat nut butters is simply with a spoon (move over Nutella*).

So it goes without saying that when I was informed of Pip and Nut's Toast Bar at the end of the Nike #WeRunLondon event, I may have, for want of a better phrase, lost my sh*t.

It gets better. Not only was there a range of nut butters available (almond, peanut and coconut almond ) there was also a range of toppings which totally made the stitch at 8k worthwhile:

Here is my creation: sourdough with almond butter, fresh strawberries infused with lemon, honey and vanilla with mixed seeds.

Words fail to capture how glorious this post run treat was, especially teamed with my free glass of bubbles, but the phrase "OMNOMNOM" may suffice.

The ingenuity of a nut butter bar should also be noted. I mean, why wasn't this a thing before? It makes perfect sense and allowed us to simultaneously recover from the run and refuel for the hour or so of silent disco raving ahead. The price of £3 for a large slice and two (yes, two!) toppings was equally refreshing in the company of far more expensive food options too.

Better yet, Pip and Nut have recruited the squeeze pack to spread the nut butter word; ideal for eating on the go and providing a perfect portion size. Armed with these nifty squeeze packs I'll be creating some of my own nut butter toast madness over the next few months as I keep running. Watch this space and let the #NaturalNuttiness ensue!

*I didn't mean it Nutellla. There will always be room on my spoon for you.
